Club History

The Club was founded in 1968 by local men Sean Rooney, Michael Lynam and Terry Wheatley.  In the early years we had one men’s and one ladies’ team with home games played on the sloping grass pitch of the old Holy Faith Convent.  After several moves to pitches in Lusk, Balbriggan and Mourne View, we finally got our own ‘grit’ pitch at the Community Centre in Skerries in 1988 – ‘Home’ at last!    It was converted to an All-Weather facility in 2005,  allowing Skerries Hockey Club to compete on level par with the other Leinster clubs.  An new upgrade by Fingal County Council in 2023 has provided the catalyst for the club to continue to progress both on and off the field..

The club is approaching 500 playing members, a 33% increase in 3 year.. For the start of the 2025/26 Season, the club will have four ladies teams (Challange A, Div 7, 11 & 12) and two men's team (Division 2 and 6).  That's double the number of senior teams in about 4 years.   The club has managed to attached significant numbers of teenagers to take up the sport in recent seasons, both boys and girls, reversing the trends have happened in many other sports.
